Fan Of The Month – Eileen Meehan

Posted on 01. Dec, 2013 by in Fan of the Month

Speech & Eileen Meehan

Speech & Eileen Meehan

Just wanted to send a note to say how really incredible and special it was to get to see you guys in Dubai.  The place does have a reputation sometimes for lacking in depth, and although I’ve found a beauty and spirit to the city since I’ve been here and have met some of the kindest people, sometimes a broader and deeper need for truth, wisdom and expression of soul goes unmet.  Hence, getting to spend time in the presence of the energy of your group was so awesome and THANK YOU so much for coming!!

You’re music has been such an inspirational influence for me for almost 2 decades – I started listening to you guys when I was 14 in a small town in Ireland, and at a time when there were no other influences around that could resonate with a desire for freedom, expression of soul and a greater world view about spirituality, God and equality that I had….. I know it’s just different levels of consciousness but I’m just really glad I found music as a source of education and expression instead of food and alcohol as a source of anaesthesia!

I’ve spent some time in Kenya too over the last few years, working on some girl-child education and food-security programmes.  On my first trip, I ended up taking a 9-hour bus (if you can call it a bus!!) journey from Nairobi to Bungoma in Western Kenya….the roads aren’t exactly the smoothest in the world and it felt like we were being rattled around by some giant 8-year old boy!  Anyway, the only consolation was my ipod and your musicJ….and certainly helped ease the transition from an air-conditioned sea-view apartment to mud hut!  I do also feel that having listened to your music so much when I was younger, it was like planting a seed for my wanting to physically make some sort of difference, and it’s something that in many ways has inadvertently shaped certain life decisions I’ve made. Some other volunteers and I set up: www.theworldcan.org  and we’ve managed to have a lot of fun working with a couple of community-based-organisations in Kenya.  That work’s been the biggest source of fun, creativity, expression and love I’ve come across…and my ‘day-job’ of doing corporate personal development pales in comparison sometimes!

I’m also so aware of the impact of external messages on our minds from a psychological perspective, and I have always found your music to be something I really trust to be influenced by.  Spirituality is also hugely important to me – I got into Buddhism living in Korea and really love the teachings and at the same time still live with God in my life every day.  And, I have to say that the fact you are a Church Minister and live such strong, positive family values – and that you guys have always, and continue to, stand up for what you believe in – is so truly powerful – especially now that the break-down of family values and prevalence of ‘what’s-in-it-for-me-now’ mentality is so common in most societies.

Anyway, just wanted to say a huge, massive thank you….and also, thanks so much also for coming and meeting us after the show – that meant an enormous amount – and I really, really appreciate it.

I’ll keep an eye on the tour schedule but it’d be awesome to stay in touch and meet up with you guys again!

With much respect and love,
Eileen

CENTERPIECE FILM: TV ONE PRESENTS PREMIERE OF

 ”UNSUNG” FEATURING CECE PENISTON

CeCe Peniston

CeCe Peniston burst onto the ’90s music scene with the infectious anthem
“Finally”, taking over the charts and becoming one of the most successful dance club artists in history.   A soulful singer with the range to take on any song, CeCe effortlessly sang R&B, dance, gospel and jazz, and went Top 5 with hits like “Keep On Walking”, “We Got A Love Thang”, and “I’m In The Mood”.  But after the huge success of her first hit, CeCe became synonymous with a narrow formula, leaving many of her fans and her record label wanting to hear little else. CeCe pushed for a greater R&B focus but ultimately alienated her core audience and ended up without a record deal.  Off stage, she struggled through two failed marriages and the loss of nearly her entire fortune. But CeCe’s tenacious spirit carried her through.
In this revealing episode of “Unsung”, CeCe candidly reveals the story of her rise to fame, her struggles to find her place in the music business and the heartbreaking personal setbacks she’s struggled to overcome.

Thicker Than Water” follows Ben and Jewel Tankard with their blended and extended family as they live, love and laugh through the perils and pleasures of life. Self-dubbed the “Black Brady Bunch,” this southern family integrates their strong religious conviction with their penchant for the finer things in life. Under the watchful eye of the patriarch and matriarch, the Tankard children, although young adults, still live at home and must abide by Ben and Jewel’s rules. With the belief that “God wants us all to be millionaires,” the Tankards aim to be the best and brightest in everything they do. Along with their drive, comes a healthy dose of rivalry proving the adage, “You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family” especially true.

TRUTH HALL, Lashon, Denise, Amber, Jazae and Colette were the best of friends. Several years later, the bonds that held them together in college prove strong enough to keep them connected well into adulthood. Based in different cities, the women’s lives are deeply entwined via smart phones, computers, smart TV”S and other modern technology.  Back in their respective cities, the women become immersed in their own chaos, love, joy, pain, divorce, affairs, conflict…life. The brief moments spent on an ichat with a trusted friend somehow makes it all seem bearable. Many people lose tough with old classmates and friends, but the women of TRUTH HALL are a new breed, refusing to allow their friendship fall by the wayside.

When it is all said and done, adulthood has revealed their true selves…parts of them that were hidden in college. And now with all secrets on the table, we find that only real friends can hand the TRUTH.

Fan Of The Month – Ewan McGee

Posted on 07. May, 2013 by in Fan of the Month

Ewan McGee

Ewan McGee describes himself as a writer, a creative obsessive, and a moderately bad guitar player.  Ewan is a 12 year seasoned journalist who has interviewed Arrested Development many times over the years.  During his second interview with Speech, they talked about how record labels sometimes do things in the name of the artist that the artist doesn’t even agree on. That was when he started getting interested  big corporations claiming to do something for their artists when they really are just out for their own money. So he decided to write a book about it called “This Way Lies Mayhem”.  We encourage you to check out his project which combines writing, music, and comic art.

We believe the book has a very important message about how we are dealing with privacy and digital rights these days. And what better way to publish a story that is all about the power of the people than through the power of the people aka crowd funding? You can find it all here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/this-way-lies-mayhem
